Why Go to Victoria Falls?
See the World’s Biggest Waterfall
Follow footpaths through an ancient rainforest to various lookout points and stand in awe of Mosi-oa-Tunya (which aptly means ‘The Smoke that Thunders’). The roaring water makes the ground tremble beneath your feet and dazzling clouds of mist float as high as the Empire State Building.
Get Your Pulse Racing
Known as Africa’s ‘Adventure Capital’, Vic Falls offers microlight and helicopter flips over the waterfall, bridge swinging, bungee jumping and zip-lining. Navigate some of the best rapids in the world on a white-water rafting trip or take a spine-tingling dip in the famous Devil’s Pool.
Excellent Accommodation
From romantic riverside suites to grand hotels serving G&Ts on manicured lawns, Vic Falls caters to every style and budget. Staying on the Zim side means you’re close to the falls and the bustling markets, while staying upstream on the Zambia side offers more tranquillity
Easily Add to a Safari
Victoria Falls is positioned at the heart of the Southern African safari experience and combines easily with incredible wildlife destinations like South Africa’s Kruger and Botswana’s Chobe and Okavango Delta, with daily flights to/from Livingstone Airport in Zambia and Victoria Falls Airport in Zimbabwe.
A Family Favourite
Bring the kids! There's plenty to keep everyone entertained plus a great selection of kid-friendly accommodation – from large resorts to private villas. Your children will love visiting the Wild Horizons Elephant Sanctuary and Orphanage, plus the ‘vulture restaurant’ at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge.
An Eco-Tourism Destination
Many of the lodges, hotels and safari operations support environmental sustainability, wildlife conservation and community empowerment. A powerful impact is being made to keep this area naturally pristine and the local communities thriving. When you visit Victoria Falls your travels are contributing to these phenomenal initiatives.
"Scenes so Lovely Must Have Been Gazed Upon by Angels in Their Flight …"
An often-quoted note from famous explorer David Livingstone after having come face to face with the mesmerising waterfall in 1855. During high-water season (February to July), about 700 000 cubic metres (25 million cubic feet) of water thunder over the falls every 60 seconds – that’s 280 Olympic swimming pools per minute! You can hear Vic Falls’ mighty roar from the road and witness the rising spray of this colossal waterfall as you approach. It’s a truly soul-stirring experience!

Botswana
Enjoy a safari in the elephant empire of Chobe, home to the biggest elephant herds on Earth. Discover the otherworldly Okavango Delta, considered Africa’s Garden of Eden and one of its last true wildernesses. Glide silently through its papyrus-flanked waterways on a mokoro (traditional canoe) while watching big game at the water’s edge.

Zimbabwe
Hwange National Park is the country’s flagship reserve and a short flight from Victoria Falls. It offers incredible big game viewing and is renowned for its massive herds of elephant. The beautiful Mana Pools National Park delivers outstanding aquatic safari activities like kayaking, boating and fishing, and is a safe haven for rare wild dog.

Zambia
The Lower Zambezi National Park lies along the northern bank of the Zambezi River with Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools set opposite. It’s an extraordinarily wildlife-rich region that offers first-class safari experiences. Beautifully wild and packed with game, South Luangwa is Zambia’s premier wildlife destination and the birthplace of the walking safari.
When To Go
High-Water Seasons: Feb–July
The mighty Zambezi River is in full flood and the Falls are at their most thunderous; usually peaking between March and April. Dazzling clouds of mist float high above the waterfall and you can expect to get drenched by the spray at most of the vantage points.
This is the best time to go for spectacular views of the waterfall and seeing the famous lunar rainbows – rare atmospheric phenomena that occur when the bright glow of a perfect full moon reflects and refracts off the mist.
Low Seasons: Aug–Jan
The Zambezi’s water levels are low until the rains start again. If you’re visiting at the end of the season, you could be left wondering what all the fuss is about as you gaze upon a mere trickle or even bare rock.
This is the best time to visit for excellent visibility (lower water levels mean less spray and mist), white-water rafting and a day trip to Livingstone Island for a dip in Devil’s Pool
Safari High Season: Jun–Oct
A great time to combine a safari with a visit to Vic Falls. Bear in mind that the later you visit, the drier Vic Falls will be. The ‘sweet spot’ for a good safari and great views is generally about July and August, which is also a very popular time to visit. Reservations should be secured well in advance.

How Much is a Victoria Falls Vacation?
Rates generally depend on timing (i.e. key travel seasons like holidays) and level of luxury (the type of amenities and exclusivity). As a guideline, a visit to Victoria Falls can range anywhere from approximately 450 USD per person per night in low season to over 1 550 USD at the finest lodges in high season.
What Costs Are Included?
Most accommodations are all-inclusive; all your meals, snacks, beverages, alcohol (with some exceptions) are part of your room rate. In addition, your game drives (if offered by your lodge) will also be included.
The only things you’ll have to pay for are special activities like guided tours of Victoria Falls, spa treatments, helicopter flips, bungee jumping and, in some cases, imported spirits. Beyond that, just gratuities for the incredible staff who will make your stay at each lodge so memorable.

Justin Chapman
"Victoria Falls is a wonder to behold from land and air. Its ideal location allows for easy access from South Africa, Botswana’s Chobe and the Okavango Delta, and Zimbabwe’s Hwange. It caters to a wide variety of travellers with diverse interests. I recommend staying along the banks of the Zambezi River versus Vic Falls town if you’re looking for tranquillity and a continuation of your safari experience."
