Deepen Your Bond with Unforgettable Experiences

Why Go on a Family Safari?

The Ultimate Family Getaway

Family vacations are meant to be a time when loved ones connect and deepen their bond through shared experiences and memories – and there’s no better place than in one of Africa’s sought-after destinations. The continent offers a fantastic array of family accommodation with plenty of outdoor fun and age-appropriate activities for families travelling with kids, teens or even grandparents.

Encounter Africa’s Most Majestic Wildlife

Africa’s most popular safari destinations offer family-friendly game drives, nature walks and water-based activities that ensure you meet a few of your favourite wildlife, including lions, rhinos, giraffes and other majestic animals. From endangered species such as the African wild dog and the pangolin to the famous Big 5, each location offers a unique sighting experience.

Bring the Toddlers Along

At first thought, a safari might not seem like the best holiday idea when you have young children tagging along, but there are plenty of tours available that ensure your little ones are kept entertained throughout with age-appropriate activities that are fun yet educational. And for extra reassurance, there are several malaria-free destinations that families can visit with children of all ages. Africa welcomes all.

Exclusive Lodges & Camps

Stay at some of the best exclusive-use luxury properties, set in enviable locations around the continent so that you can visit any destination without compromising on style and comfort. 5-star lodges, camps and hotels, Africa has it all.

Excellent Value

Thanks to a very favourable exchange rate, it’s easy to find superb accommodation that offers that extra bit of holiday pampering. Spoilt for choice is an understatement with an option to suit every budget and preference.

Convenient Add-Ons

Frequent flights and accessibility make it easy to combine your family safari with other spectacular destinations in Southern and East Africa. You can also crown a safari with a beach vacation by visiting Zanzibar or Mozambique.

Only the Best Family Safaris

Memories made on family vacations are ones to treasure forever. Family holidays are special occasions for every brood; it’s a time to come together, strengthen bonds and enjoy new experiences with one another.

Since 1998, we’ve been taking our own families on safari vacations and understand how to plan family friendly holidays in Africa that are unforgettable for all the right reasons.

Top Destinations for a Family Safari

Here are some of our best packages, all completely customisable to your requirements and travel wishes:

South Africa

There is so much to see and do, and because the country is so sophisticated in relation to the rest of Africa, visitors are able to see and experience the continent of ‘Africa’ without really leaving their comfort zone of western standard facilities.

This opportunity is very attractive to many people, but for families trying to mix an African wildlife adventure with a more general family holiday and some relaxation time, South Africa is the perfect destination.

Highlights:

  • Excellent Big 5 wildlife encounters
  • Family-friendly and exclusive accommodation
  • Bush & beach family escapes so you can enjoy the best of both
  • Various safari programmes dedicated to educating and keeping the kids entertained

Kenya

Kenya offers an excellent range of unique, exhilarating activities for families, from hot-air balloon rides over the Masai Mara to snorkelling among marlin and sailfish in the Indian Ocean.

Safaris appeal to children’s sense of wonder, driving almost within arm’s reach of elephants, lion and cheetah. One of the highlights is witnessing the extraordinary spectacle of the Great Migration- the largest mammal migration on the planet.

Highlights:

  • Fly-in convenience across Kenya
  • Stay in private concessions for exclusive sightings
  • Seasonal Wildebeest Migration in Masai Mara
  • 4×4 game drives, guided nature walks and Maasai cultural interaction

Botswana

Game viewing in Botswana is never dull – there is plenty to see and all of the Big 5 to look out for, which really engages children’s attention.

We love setting family safaris in Botswana’s private concessions as these areas allow the most variety in game-viewing activities, from 4x4x drives that cover plenty of terrain and are ideal for watching big game and predators, to guided nature walks that introduce you to tracking and wilderness survival skills.

Highlights:

  • Child-friendly safaris through Botswana’s most pristine wildernesses
  • Guided walks with Bushmen, indigenous hunter-gatherers
  • Fly-in convenience and en-suite comfort in family tents
  • Enjoy fun & educational activities

Mozambique from the sky

Zanzibar

Lying just off the coast of Tanzania, Zanzibar is the perfect place to unwind and relax. Recoup from your walking safari by spending your days exploring Stone Town, participating in spice tours, tanning on palm-fringed beaches, and sailing on white-sailed dhows across a turquoise sea.

Walkway to the beach

Mozambique

There's no better way to end your family safari than with a beach finale. A Mozambique holiday is the perfect excuse to kick off your shoes, take off your watch and gear down to the slow pace of island life: swim, snorkel, laze in the sunshine and on the sand, or set sail on a sunset dhow cruise.

Vic Falls Devils Pool

Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls, an ideal family destination, offers a mix of natural wonders and adventures. Witness the stunning falls, go on a Chobe safari, try white-water rafting, and enjoy orange sunset cruises on the Zambezi river. With diverse activities, it ensures a memorable family holiday in Africa.

How Much is a Family Safari?

Rates generally depend on timing (i.e., key travel seasons like holidays) and level of luxury (the type of amenities and exclusivity). As a guideline, safaris can range anywhere from approximately $450 USD per person per night in low season to over $4,100 USD at the finest lodges in high season.

What Costs Are Included?

Most accommodations are all-inclusive; all your meals, snacks, beverages, alcohol (with some exceptions) are part of your room rate. In addition, your game drives, and other excursions like walking safaris and cultural village visits will all be included. To run in such remote areas at such a high level of hospitality, it takes some serious logistics and often means guest-to-staff ratios of more than 5 to 1. Not to mention many accommodations offer services like laundry, so you can pack light and travel easily.

The only things you’ll have to pay for are special activities (like hot-air balloon rides and spa treatments) and, in some cases, imported spirits. Beyond that, just gratuities for the incredible staff who will make your stay at each lodge so memorable.
